When adding your Gmail account to Microsoft Outlook you run into the Error;
"Your IMAP server wants to alert you to the following: application-specific password required: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833"This error is thrown because certain applications such as Microsoft Outlook (even 2016) do not support 2-step verification yet. However, Google provide a method to get round this issue by allowing you to create App specific passwords withing your Google Account. In short; You need to go to the App Passwords section in your google account.
- Choose App Type
- Choose Device Type
- Click Generate, to generate a password for your app.
- Sign into your app, replacing your usual password with the new app password displayed in your Google account.
You can create passwords for a variety of app types and also revoke/regenerate passwords as well.
