To use SFC from startup repair partition/windows CD.
Open Command Prompt
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\Windows
Remember to replace both instances of C: if this is not the drive letter assigned. From the recovery menu it is likely to be assigned D:.
